General Mechanics[]

3S: Slash/shot/spell, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
4x Leads: Using a leader and a friend both with leader skills of type “Boost ATK by x% when under/at 50%+ HP.”
Active: Active Skills, the skill that requires LC to use.
ATK: A unit’s base damage dealt to enemies.
"Aura" or "to aura": To force a unit to appear on the board with an aura that guarantees its arte will go off when used in a link. (See the Tile Management guide for details.)
Awakening: The system by which some 5-star units can be upgraded to a 6-star version. Awakening a unit gives them additional passives, improvements to their leader skills and active skills, higher stats, and a larger herb limit.
Awakening Summon: A summon event that features 5-star units eligible to be upgraded into 6-star units via the Awakening system. (See Awakening Summon.)
Banner Unit: See also Featured Unit. The units advertised in a summon that are not part of the Common Summon Pool.
Barb Cheese: See Double Barbatos.
Base Stats: The stats of a unit before accounting for herbs or passives.
Bell: Bash and spell, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
Blitz: A strategy that involves entering a battle with high ATK and defeating an enemy quickly. See Double Barbatos/Barb for an example.
Cheese: To use a blitz strategy to defeat an enemy quickly and easily. Often used disparagingly.
Chestered: Of a summon, used to describe an undesired result, especially a Chester unit. Originated with the June Bride Summon, when many players obtained [Survivor] Chester as a featured unit instead of one of the costumed 5-stars.
Clear Stone: The Hero Stone received for clearing all battle stages in a particular area of an event or story quests.
Completion Stone: See Clear Stone.
Corina: Corina Mountain Road, a stage that formerly had high EXP/stamina gain during certain times.
Desperation:

  • A massively powerful attack some bosses use when they hit a certain HP threshold. Usually preceded by a countdown of a few turns, it often results in a Game Over for the player.
  • A gameplay strategy involving the use of various skills, unit passives (especially Desperation Healer), and gear to greatly boost the damage of a Mystic Arte used at very low health.

DoA: Dead or Alive. Another way to refer to a Desperation strategy.
Double Barbatos/Barb: A strategy involving using [Hero Killer] Barbatos as your leader and a friend leader. The resulting Mystic Arte damage in battle will be multiplied immensely due to the leader skills (3x and 3x). Often paired with a Link Boost strategy, in which units with high Link Boost passives are used to start the battle with enough LC to defeat an enemy in as quickly as a single turn.
Double Boost or Double Boosted: The use of two different types of attack-boosting active skills (Tile Boosters, Type Boosters, Other Boosters) to increase damage. Usually used when discussing Mystic Artes.
Featured Unit: See also Banner Unit. The units advertised in a given summon that are generally not part of the Common Summon Pool.
Finisher Count: See also Kill count. Number of enemies a unit has defeated, typically to obtain passives.
G5: A summon that guarantees a 5-star unit in a multiple-unit draw. Most often refers to summons whose rosters consist of previously issued units, with a limit to how many times one can summon from it; after the limit is reached, either the summon becomes unavailable or the 5-star guarantee disappears.
Gacha: Summons. Derived from “Gashapon”, refers to a limited time pool containing different characters you can summon using stones.
“To gel”: To spend Stamina Gels to acquire gear, mana, units, or items at a faster rate than natural stamina refill time allows.
Global: The World Wide version of Tales of Link encompassing the EUR/CAN/CHN/TWN/USA localizations.
Grind: Playing a stage or stages over and over again rapidly to accumulate EXP, gear, mana, etc.
“Hawk” or “To hawk”: To use hawk units to limit break another unit, raising its maximum level.
Heart trick: See Aura. An aspect of tile management that involves using hearts to force a unit to appear on the board with an aura. (See the Tile Management guide for details.)
“To herb”: To use herbs or similar items to increase a unit's stats.
HP: A unit's maximum hit points.
Japan/JPN/JP: The Japanese version of Tales of Link.
Kill Count: See also Finisher Count. Number of enemies a unit has defeated, typically to obtain a passive.
LB: Limit break of a Unit or Gear.
LB0: Refers to the maximum level that a unit or piece of equipment can achieve without being limit broken. Usually used when referring to stats.
LC: Link Counter, needed to activate skills.
MA Summon: Mystic Arte Summon. A summon event, beginning before a Soul Arena, that features units capable of using the Mystic Arte(s) obtainable in the Soul Arena.
Malik: Key of Malik, a Key stage used to increase Finisher/Kill Counts (and sometimes rank as well). Also used as a verb to talk about using them.
Missions: Missions
MLB: Max Limit Break, when a gear or a unit has been limit broken fully.
Multi: A summon that gives multiple units. Usually refers to spending 50 Hero Stones on a summon event to receive 10 units, although these numbers may vary depending on the summon.
OLA: Overlink Arte
PA: Power Awakening, one manifestation of the Awakening system that can be used to evolve some 5-star units into 6-star units.
Proc: The triggering of a randomly-activated effect, such as an arte, Lucky Healing, or Inspirit Attackers. Also used as a verb to describe such activations.
Rank up: The act of repeatedly completing high EXP stages to increase Account Rank and refresh the stamina bar.
Reroll: To continually create new accounts until a desired unit is obtained through summoning.
“To ring”: To use an Element Ring to change a unit's hidden element.
“To roll”, “a roll”, “to pull”, “a pull”: To spend Hero Stones in a summon event.
Shell: Shot and spell, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
Shields: Iron Stance, where an enemy uses ‘shields’ that must be broken before the player can deal full damage.
Shrust: Shot and thrust, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
Single: See also Yolo. The first roll of a summon event that guarantees a 4 star or above unit.
Splash: Slash and spell, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
Step (up): A summon that involves different "steps," typically containing better guarantees as the player spends more hero stones on multi-pulls. Some lower steps may also be cheaper than the typical 50 stone cost, which vary based on the step.
Sustain: See also Tank. A gameplay strategy that involves using two HP/ATK leads and weathering enemy attacks for a long battle.
TA: True Awakening, a term borrowed from the Japanese version to refer to EX Awakening. One manifestation of the Awakening system that can be used to evolve some 5-star units into 6-star units.
“Tank”, “to tank”: See also Sustain. A gameplay strategy that involves using two HP/ATK leads and weathering enemy attacks for a long battle.
Thicket: Bewitching Thicket, a stage formerly valued for its high stamina to EXP ratio.
Thrash: Thrust and slash, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
Threll: Thrust and spell, used in conjunction with describing leader skills.
Ticket Summon:

  • A summon event in which, instead of spending Hero Stones, a player can spend special tickets to receive a 5-star unit. (See Ticket Summon.)
  • A summon in which a player can spend tickets to receive gear or guardians.

Triple Boost or Triple Boosted: The use of three different types of attack-boosting active skills (Tile Boosters, Type Boosters, Other Boosters) to increase damage. Usually used when discussing Mystic Artes.
Type Colle(ction): A summon event in which there are 5 different unit pools, each containing only units of the corresponding type. (See Type Collection Summon.)
Weapon Key: Key of Weapon, a Key stage used to farm gear from the chosen type and evolve materials. This is also sometimes used to grind account level.
“Yolo”, “to yolo”: To spend 5 stones on a summon event for a single unit. May or may not refer to a first pull.

Unit Abilities[]

<50% and >50%: Leader skills of type “Boost ATK by x% when under/at 50%+ HP.” (See Conditional Leader)
1.5/2.0 or 2x: Leader skills of the type “Boost HP by 1.5/1.6, ATK by 2.0.” (See High ATK Sustain Leads)
All Lead: See also Rainbow. Leader skills that give boosts to all unit types. (See All HP/ATK Leads)
All Changer: A unit that changes all tiles to a single type of tile. (See All Tile Changer)
AOE: A unit's arte that attacks all enemies. Derived from "Area of Effect". (See Category:Has AoE Arte.)
Arte Healer: See also Vamp. A unit whose arte will return damage dealt as HP. (See Arte Healers.)
Blood Boost: An active skill that reduces the player's HP in order to boost the ATK of all units. (See Category:AS Blood Booster ATK.)
Delayer: A unit whose arte will delay an enemy or enemies for a certain number of turns. (See Delayers.)
Double Tile Changer: Sometimes referred to as 2>1 tile change. Unit that change two types of tiles to another.(See Dual Tile Changer)
Cockroach: Refers to an active skill that allows a battle to continue even if you reach 0 HP. See Has Survival AS.
Finisher:

  • Link Finisher, usually accompanied by a number to indicate the level of the passive.
  • The unit equipped with a MA intended to deal the significant damage of a boss fight.

Finisher Passive(s): A passive that makes a unit especially suited to dealing damage and therefore desirable as a Mystic Arte user in difficult content. Usually refers to Link Finisher, but may also be used for other percentage-based ATK-increasing passives, especially Forcefulness.
Force: Forcefulness. Accompanied by a number to indicate the level of the passive.
Gacha Finisher: A unit that can use a Mystic Arte and is only available through Summons. Usually used to distinguish from units obtained via Soul Arena.
Gel Arte: An arte that restores HP without dealing damage. See Non-Offensive Arte Healers.
Glass (Cannon) Conditional leaders who boost ATK when above a certain HP threshold.
Gravity: Refers to an Active Skill that inflicts damage as a percentage of the enemy's current health. See Has Gravity AS.
HP Drop/Reduction Boost: See Blood Boost.
LB: Link Boost. Accompanied by a number to indicate the level of Link Boost.
LF: Link Finisher. Accompanied by a number to indicate the level of the passive.
MA: Mystic Arte
Mana King Killer: A unit with a low-cost attacking active skill that pierces defense. (See Mana King Killer)
Mega [Unit]: A fully limit broken 6-star unit leveled to 119.
Mini Dhaos(-Type) Leader/LS: A leader skill that reduces damage taken by a small amount (see Has LS Shield). Named for [Man Who Stands by God] Dhaos, whose leader skill offers what is currently the highest amount of damage reduction in the game.
Percent(age) Heal(er):

  • An arte that restores HP without dealing damage, or a unit that possesses such an arte. (See Non-Offensive Arte Healers.)
  • An active skill that restores a percentage of a player's total HP.

PSV: Passives, extra skills a unit can obtain.
Rainbow: See also All. Leader skills that give boosts to all unit types. (See All HP/ATK Leads)
RCV: A unit’s base recovery/healing rate.
Sac Boost, Sacrifice Boost: See Blood Boost.
Sheena(-Type) Active/Skill: See Mana King Killer. A low-cost active skill attack that pierces defense. Named for [Elemental Summoner] Sheena, the most easily obtainable unit with such an ability.
Static ATK Lead(er): A unit with a leader skill that boosts ATK (and not HP or RCV) without any conditions.
Sustain Lead(er): A unit with a leader skill that boosts both HP and ATK. (See HP/ATK Boosters.)
Tank Lead(er): See Sustain Lead(er).
Tile Boost/Buff: An active skill that boosts the ATK of units occupying certain types of tiles on the board/field. (See Tile Boosters.)
Tile Changer/Flipper: An active skill that changes tiles into another tile. (See Tile Changer.)
Type Boost/Buff: An active that boost the ATK of units of a certain weapon type. (See Type Boosters)
UA: Unison Arte Unit
Utility (Arte): An arte with an effect besides dealing damage. Usually refers to healing and delaying artes.
Vamp/Vampire: See also Arte Healer. A unit whose arte will return damage dealt as HP. (See Arte Healers)

Badge:

Bazooka: Gardina SR elemental weapons.
BF Weapons: Weapons from the Brave Frontier Collaboration that give elemental damage reduction.
Bride Ring: Bridal Memories, a strong offensive armor often equipped on non-Slash Mystic Arte users due to its Link Finisher passive.
Brush: Schreibpinsel SR elemental weapons.
Chakram: Atrana SR elemental weapons.
Cloak: Usually refers to Crescent Cloak ++, a strong offensive armor often equipped on non-Slash Mystic Arte users due to its Link Finisher passive.
Coat: Generally refers to Coat of Midnight, an armor valued for its high ATK stat and protection against wind attacks.
CT Weapons: Also called CQ Weapons. The weapons (usually UR, unless otherwise specified) obtained from the Challenging Trial.
Desperation/DoA/CT/CQ Hammer: Mystech Hammer ver. 3, the UR bash weapon obtainable from the Challenging Trial. Valued because the significant boost to ATK it provides at low HP makes it work very well in a Desperation strategy.
Edna Weapons: Powerful UR fire weapons from the Fire Element Challenge event.
Elemental SR Weapons: Sometimes referred to as the prismatic series. Elemental SR weapons of each type found in Key of Weapon stages.
Flippers: See Scuba Gear.
GE Weapons: Weapons from the God Eater 2 Collaboration that have strong offensive passives.
GL: Goddess' Love, the material used to upgrade an UR Arte Soul.
GST: Guardian Summon Ticket, usually used in the plural.
Healing Bell: Heavensong of Revival ++, a strong armor with a Lucky Healing passive obtained from Challenging Trial.
Kush: Kusharama SR elemental weapons.
Lailah Weapons: Powerful UR water weapons from the Sorceress of Eternal Flame event.
Liastora: See also White Armor. Radiant Liastora, an armor with a strong support passive.

Meowna's Bell: See also Healing Bell.
Metal/Ingot/Ore: Metals are gear intended to be sold for gald.
Mikleo Weapons: Powerful UR wind weapons from the Wind Element Challenge event.
Nodus: Wingblade Nodus, a powerful slash weapon with a Link Finisher passive.
Orb:

  • See also Sphere. Spheres give more exp when fusing items.
  • Any of the various types of Awakening Material that are not character-specific.

Phoenix Spear: Volynx the Purifier, the UR thrust weapon obtainable from the Challenging Trial. Has a chance to randomly increase the party's attack.
RCV Armor: See also White Armor. Radiant Liastora, an armor with a strong support passive.
Red Ribbon: Metellard Ribbon, an armor that gives immunity to ailments.
Red Ring: Promeggle Liberator, an armor that can heal HP based on an unit's RCV when the unit kills an enemy.
Ribbon: Unless otherwise specified, Metellard Ribbon, an armor that gives immunity to ailments
SAO Gear: Gear obtained in the Sword Art Online Collaboration, all earth element.
Scuba Gear/Snorkel: Summer Memories, an armor sporting a strong attack stat and an Aura chance increasing passive (see Aura Plus).
Sphere: See also Orb. Spheres give more exp when fusing items.
Tutella: Vermillion Efreeti, an armor valued for the protection it grants against fire attacks.
Vamp/CT/CQ Bow: Bow of Ralmutoluk, the UR shot weapon obtainable from the Challenging Trial. Prized for allowing the wielder to sometimes restore HP based on damage dealt, much like an Arte Healer.
White Armor: See also RCV Armor. Radiant Liastora, an armor with a strong support passive.

Events and Enemies[]

Arena: Soul Arena
Ares: Ares Realm
Centaur: Boss, found in Ares Realm and Key of Weapon, stages, are known for their diagonal freeze attack.
Cerbs: Cerberus bosses found only in Ares Realm, known for their status effects attacks, foremost the freeze status effect. They are difficult to defeat because of a hit-all-tile attack.
Clash: Clash Events or units obtained from clash events.
CS or CrS: Carnage Sphere.
CT: Challenging Trial, a high-difficulty event.
Cutoff: The mana obtained by the last player in the highest tier of ranks in a Soul Arena.
Den: Mana-Eater's Den, the highest-difficulty stage in Soul Arena. Favored for its high mana to stamina ratio.
DF: Duel Fes
Dragon: The typical enemy boss of Soul Arena, but can be found in other areas. They usually hit hard and attack every turn after their initial turn countdown when in Soul Arena.
HoH: Hell or Heaven difficulty.
King ME: A king Mana Eater. Can only be encountered in the Mana-Eater's Nest and Mana-Eater's Den stages of Soul Arena.
KoW: Key of Weapon, a Key stage used to farm gear from the chosen type and evolve materials.
Lich: See also Reaper. A boss that typically attacks with status effects such as poison, sleep, and arteseal.
ME: Mana Eater(s). This mainly refers to the rare variety, but there are others.
Mana Eater/ME defense: An enemy ability that reduces damage taken to 1 unless the attack value exceeds the enemy's defense. Named for the most commonly encountered enemy that possesses it.
Nest: Mana-Eater's Nest, the second-highest difficulty stage in Soul Arena.
Prince ME: A prince Mana Eater, which rarely appears in HoH levels and below of Soul Arena.
Rainbow: Used while discussing Farmable Units to indicate a set in all elements, fully limit broken.
“To rank”, “to T1”: To finish a Soul Arena with a rank within the top tier of rank prizes.
Reaper: See also Lich. Boss, commonly refers to the version found in Weapon Keys, typically attacks with status effects such as poison, sleep, and arteseals.
Rush: The rapid increase of accumulated mana of the upper tier of ranks during the last few hours of a Soul Arena event.
SA: Soul Arena
SoD: Souls of Duel, the separate stamina system used in Duel Fes.
Tower(s): Trial Tower

Archer Kratos: [Unifying Calm] Kratos, a unit with Link Boost 4.
Ares Kratos: The 6-star unit [Celestial Judgement] Kratos.
